Subclass 820 / 801
Two-stage: temporary 820 → permanent 801
The Partner visa (subclass 820/801) allows the partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia. Both visa stages are lodged together at the same time — the temporary stage (820) is granted first, then the permanent stage (801) is assessed approximately two years later when a longer relationship is demonstrated.
📋 801 permanent stage is usually assessed around 2 years after application date. Earlier assessment may apply for long-term relationships.
Subclass 309 / 100
Two-stage: temporary 309 → permanent 100
The Partner visa (subclass 309/100) is for partners who are outside Australia when applying. Like the onshore visa, both stages are lodged together with the permanent stage assessed later — usually about two years after lodgement.
📋 100 permanent stage is usually assessed about 2 years from application lodgement. Earlier assessment may apply where the relationship is long-term.
Subclass 300
